reliability A4 V6 vs 1.8T

While this may be the case, I really think it has to do more with the
maintenance schedule than
anything else.

Our old A4 1.8T had a pristinely clean inside of the head at 50-52k miles.
We used Mobil 1 0W40
(black cap, "European formula") from 5000 miles onward, OEM filters and oil
changes every 3k miles,
filter every other oil change. The car was driven moderately- it wasn't
beaten on, but it wasn't babied
either.

I think using a good synthetic oil is critical to the longevity of this
engine.
