Idiot light flashing

Guys,

Have just got the head back on my '88 90Q after losing a headgasket. Had
a play with the Standard Abrasives DIY port and polish kit, got new
valve guides, had seats and valves re-cut, head skimmed, new lifters,
and cleaned and painted a few bits. All good fun!

Anyways, got it back together and running, and I have an issue with the
idiot light (!) flashing at me. It seems to be intermittent, but no
other lights come on to give me a clue as to what is causing it. Is it
likely to be a blown bulb preventing me seeing *another* warning light,
or are there circumstances when the (!) light will come on by itself?
Should it be flashing, or is because the fault is intermittent?

As a bit of background, the head was off, and all vacuum and breather
lines are likely to be completely shuffled at this stage, but managed to
get close enough for an idle!
Have to hunt out a schematic in the family album and see what I'm missing.

Timing is set to 12 deg BTDC with vacuum line to distributor
disconnected, is this correct?

Thanks for any feedback guys

Duncan
