MFTS Woes and Thank Yous

Thanks to everyone who responded about adding an oil pressure gauge to my
'87 5KCSTQ. I'll let everyone know what I decide and do a writeup once I
make up my mind, with pix.
And in other news, today I was cruising up I-84 near Hartford, zipping along
at a pretty good, safe clip when the autocheck started flashing the feared
Coolant Temperature Red Triangle. Scared the bejeezus out of me (the
ajeezus and the cjeezus, too.) But the temp. gauge was indicating *below*
the midpoint even at the prevailing speed, and so I pulled over briefly,
checked things out and then soldiered on. It's the MFTS, dontcha know? The
gauge is working, the A/C is working, but the autocheck signal is popping up
intermittently (and yes, I did check the coolant expansion tank level switch
and wiring.)
Since I was planning a coolant flush anyway, I'll remove the sensor and see
whether it's just the connectors and the boot, clean the terminals, use some
contact enhancer, and cross the fingers. Hanging upside down like it does
hopefully it's just the connector, since everything else is OK and the
coolant gauge has never given me the slightest bit of flakiness.
But whew, seeing that light come on at speed with the piercing BEEP BEEP is
just no fun at all. It sure does get your attention. I wish Audi had made
the warning something a little less piercing, like a Klaxon or an air-raid
siren, or something. ;)
