The ecu is set in transport mode, but I'm not sure exactly what that
entails as far as throttle HP limitations.  I didn't work there when
anything with as much gusto as the RS4 was around, so they very easily
could have come up with some sort of plug-in "valet mode" system to
limit the chance they get abused at port.  When I was there, and to
this day, my dealer puts the "real" wipers on at PDI, which is usually
done as soon after the cars are delivered the dealer as they can.  A
lot of larger markets have cars that sit in holding lots so they don't
PDI them right away from what I understand, to keep the paint from
being destroyed by sitting outside, so they could very easily may
leave the plastic wrap on them for a while, and also not switch the
wipers from the little yellow/blue ones to black.
They're not supposed to test drive a car that's not been fully
PDI'd....they're supposed to keep at least one demo of each model for
that purpose if they're large enough to not PDI cars when they come
in.
