I once crossed the "backside" of upstate NY, to avoid tolls, I think.
Certainly scenic, but the road I took went all the way up and down every
hillock on the way. The Interstate, on the other hand, has a more level
roadway cut through for it. But if you're looking for contrast with...

...you'll certainly get it. And yes, whether you end up on I-70 or
I-80, it's basically just point and go from the big rivers to the mountains.
