With the car off the brake pedal feel should change as you continue to
pump it.
You bleed pressure off the bomb each time you hit the pedal until the
bomb is "dead".
So, you could still have a tired/dead bomb or a bad check valve (also in
the bomb). Of course this still doesn't help with the squishiness...
