Is the hydraulic reservoir filthy on the outside or the inside? Remember
that there is a banjo bolt on the bomb that contains a tiny filter screen
that can get clogged. When I re-upped my bomb with Dave Kase's (and YES,
Dave, I know you're still missing my core, I really apologize, you will
receive it early next week with a bonus) I did the full clean n' flush of
everything, including the inside of the reservoir and then I made sure the
banjo bolt at the bomb was absolutely clean with pressurized air and some
brake cleaner.
Question: is there another filter somewhere in any of the lines? The mysts
of memory seem to suggest that there was, but I can't recall.
Also, if after all this troubleshooting you opt to go the
bomb-replacement/flush route, I just used the "febi" fluid from
Blaufergnugen instead of Pentosin and it's working very well. In fact, it
seems to have completely cured a mild groaning in my steering rack when the
car is first started. $10.95 a liter versus $17.95 for the Pentosin.

BTW, and this is a slightly diffrerent subject, but when I removed the
*brake fluid* reservoir recently to do the master cylinder, I was AMAZED at
how much gunk there had accumulated inside it. Little tiny fine black
particles which looked to me an awful lot like shredded rubber
particles...'specially in the removable screen. Needless to say I flushed
the brake system twice with the power bleeder and put everything back
together as clean as I could get it.
