Saw an R8 today...

Thanks Ti.....and everyone else,
--The 792P is the one I remember seeing; albeit on television so the sound
wasn't really evident. I remember this car having repeated problems with
lighting it's own bodywork on fire due to excessive heat buildup in the
muffler.
--I'd never seen the one Cody posted the link for. That exhaust system is
crazy!
--I never got to see the Zakspeed Mustang racing. The one time I saw it on
television it had been involved in an accident prior to me turning on the
set and I missed it. It was a front-engined car if I remember correctly.
It's got to be the only one besides the Panoz that tried to make that work.
--As far as Porsche's being raced in 1963.......I doubt it. I had the
opportunity to drive a 911 [hand] built in late 1963 for the 1964 hillclimb
racing season in the UK. It was RHD and still had the extremely close ratio
gearbox. It had been updated to the Weber IDA triple-choke carbs by the
time drove it. (It came into our shop with the original Solex's still in
place, but all leaking badly) This car was early enough that it's chassis
number appeared to be an extension of the numbers used for 356 production.
--The Lotus image link that Louis-Alain posted shows a model I always
thought was the Elan +2. It was a four-seat version that had a permanent
hardtop. Go to: http://www.geocities.com/trevorsparrow/elanplus2/photo1.htm
We're probably talking about the same vehicle, but known by two different
names. They sure look similar. The pop-up lights are configured
differently than those of the two-seat Elan.
