Coolant hoses - ever had one fail? (Dave C)

The only problem I've ever had was the metal cooling line from the turbo to
the top of the engine. Where the line enters the engine, the line turns to
plastic. This section of line totally disintegrated. Fortunately I was in a
parking lot (after a long drive from Vail to Jackson Hole). I came out to
grab some luggage and noticed coolant all over the place under the car.
Because I wasn't going anywhere, I had the replacement part shipped to me,
but I could have cut the metal line and rigged something to get home. The
line was shot though, totally crumbling and I can't believe I was lucky
enough to have it fail at the end of my trip: there's a lot of empty space
between Rock Springs, WY and Jackson!!!! Not a road where you want to break
down.
