I ran home from work yesterday to start my freshly
detailed/painted engine on my'86 5KTQ but it did not
crank.

Good thing "nosy neighbors" were not around, or else I
would have spent the night in jail.

I'm hoping that is something as simple as a bad ground
due to maybe paint in betwen sheet metal, such as in
the starter connection. Any other critical ground and
or + connection I should look besides that of the
starter and little ground strap to hooks up to the
driver-side alumium engine mount?

I will wire brush any connections to make sure contact
is fully made.

Yesterday I grabbed a test light to test the starter
connections to make sure it was getting current but it
showed no current flow...I later realize the damn test
light was broken....I guess that's a relief. Will get
new test light today.

I can hear the relays on the outside fuse box clicking
when I turn ignition switch.

I can also hear the ECU clicking as well as the idle
ISV buzzing if ignition key left on the start
position.

Headlights lit up and radio works, so I'm getting
power flow there.

Battery is fully charged by the way.... I took it of
my running VW Syncro.

In addition, I don't hear the fuel pump buzzing,
however, as I recalled it did before...but that's a
separate issue anyway. I have not connected the fuel
injector cooling fan, but don't think that would make
a difference either.

It got dark before I new it and did not want to fend
off blood starving mosquitoes so called it for the
night.

As as posted before, I just finished putting
everything back together after detailing/painting
engine and accessories.

I did not take apart critical parts such as gas lines
and as far as electricals, I simply disconnected them
from their sensors and plug them back on.

I'm working like a slave today and tomorrow as well as
1/2 day on Saturday, so will get back to the matter
Sat afternoon.

I just want to start this car and go for a test drive
so bad!!!

I appreciate your input.

TIA,

-Louis
