Visual inspections aren't good enough for electricity.

Most new engines I've seen have had the mounting pads masked off during the
painting process.  IDK about the I5 block, however.

You need a VOM to test for the ground.  If you find high resistance in the
ground path, you can connect a jumper wire from the battey negative to the
engine (somewhere bare metal, not painted) and re-check the ground paths.

Visual inspections won't suffice.
