What he said. If you hear the pump, you might try cracking open
the fuel line up in the engine bay (lessee, 5K... at the Fuel
Distributor?), to see if it actually gets gas to the engine (and of
course be wary of exposed gas and sparks).
If the pump was fine, and it is now varnished, you might be able to
remove it, soak it in carb cleaner, and get it working again. It's worth
a try to save $230 (less $5 for the cleaner).
