Airbag removal

How did the steering wheel become not straight?  If it was due to suspension
work, I would pursue it from that end.  To me it signals a problem with the
steering assembly in som eplace.  Steering rack not centered in its
mounting? Tie rod lengths can be played with to center the wheel.  

Do you have equal number of turns from center to full lock, both left and
right?

i need to remove the airbag from the steering wheel of my 1996 s6 so i can
take the wheel off and put it back on straight, any btdt out there for this,
i am assuming disconnect battery and be very gentle.
