One broken wire in the door jamb can cause all sorts of
odd behavior. Audi uses switching grounds, which means
that a wire will act as a ground with a switch in one position,
but will change that wire to 12v power with the switch in the
other position (rather than one wire always ground, with
the switch just opening and closing the 12v power side).
My money is still on a broken wire inside the rubber boot.
I've CC'd the main quattro list, as their collective minds may
have other ideas.
