Maybe 2 decades ago, but no more.  GM, Ford and Chrysler have some very
good ultra reliable diesels out there.  Chrysler is using Mercedes
engines, GM has dumped it's one Achilles heal in it's diesels-the POS
Stanadyne injection for the bulletproof Bosch, and Ford diesels will
drive their rust bucket shells to the boneyard reliably too.  Comparing
the 'mercan passenger diesels of the past with current "Detroit" iron is
like comparing todays ubber Audi's to the 100LS.
