Rear brake tool?

OK, I spent quite a while yesterday, trying to reset the ebrake mechanism on
my rear calipers (well, only messed with one till I got frustrated). I have
a 2000 A6 2.7t and this is my first time doing pads on this car. I've done
rear pads on the 5KTQ and 200q20v that I owned before and could always get
the piston back in by alternately turning it clockwise and pushing it in. It
has never been a quick procedure, but it always worked.
I spent a lot of time at it yesterday with very little apparent movement of
the piston. Is there any special trick with this car? Is there a cheap tool
that will do the trick? I'd be happy to rent a tool from someone!
thanks in advance,
David
