radio code

Things must be a bit different here in Canada.  In both of my beetles'
owner's manuals, radio sections, it is printed that the radio code
would be given to the owner free of charge upon request.  There is a
card in each manual meant to be used to write the radio code on, even
it's perforated for easy tearing off from the manual and there are
instructions to be kept outside of the car.  I bought one of them
privately and the PO didn't even know the radio had to be coded to
work.  The PO had it as a certified pre-owned car, called the dealer
he had bought it from, identified himself and got the code over the
phone, free.
