Wax engine bay corrosion protection

So I made the mistake of calling my local dealer. I ask for the parts
department figuring that they stock all the common Audi chemicals. I
then ask about the owner's manual recommended wax based corrosion
proofing after thorough cleaning of the engine bay.

Parts department lady: "Uhh, I wouldn't know anything about that, let
me transfer you to service"
Service manager: "There's something like five computers under the
hood. Audi doesn't recommend that you wash the engine"

What was I thinking? Clean the engine? Perish the thought! Now
granted I didn't get to the point of telling the service guy that
this was a pre cup holder era Audi because of his tone of voice. As a
matter of fact I just hung up on him. I didn't ask whether or not I
should wash the engine, I asked about wax corrosion spray.

I'm just trying to follow the damn instructions provided by the
manufacturer. And before any of you accuse me of being loopy I can
assure you that the type 44 does indeed rust having just performed a
rust removal and abatement procedure in the area under the master
cylinder. I also happen to know that they rust around the mounting
holes for the chrome trim above the rear bumper. And there is bare
metal all over that engine bay that I'd rather not subject to salt
all winter having just banished all remains of the Pentosin goo that
was protecting it before. I'm not into self renewing rust proofing by
way of oil leaks because that just smacks too much of cars made in
the UK and HD motorcycles. I'd rather apply it myself and keep the
vital fluids in their proper places.

I got an earlier reply stating that what I was seeking was Cosmoline
but I'm not certain that's the case. Cosmoline as I know it is much
softer and stickier than what I removed but on the other hand it's
been out in the elements for 17 years. I'm interested in the Wurth
stuff that Martin used because Wurth was likely the original Audi
supplier so it may be the real deal. All the old car nuts on the east
side of the atlantic rave about Waxoyl but I've had no luck finding a
US based supplier.
