They should be the same... and on the bottom of the relay, etc.  The 
15,30,31 and 87 are standard DIN relay numbers; the "1" probably is, 
too.  Anyway...

Correct.  You would at least need some sort of signal for the coil 
terminal, either from a running engine or some sort of signal generator. 
  Rat-at-atting it with 12 volts might work.

Side note: the "fuel pump priming" feature often observed on these cars 
is just a bug - the FPR turns "on" for a moment in response to the first 
pulse from the ign sw to the coil.  Then it turns off.

Single Pole Single Throw.  A simple on/off switch, in other words. 
Normally Open (NO) in this case.
