Porsche conducted a survey, and found a large number of their
customers a)owned an SUV and b)would buy (not "want"- BUY, a decent
distinction) an SUV from Porsche if they made one. It may have been
a travesty to some, ugly to anyone with a pulse...but when your
existing customers say "whatever it is, I'll buy it!"...you whisper
"deny, but take deposits!" to your dealers, and get to work on it :-)
The Cayman...lot of people would like to have one, but it seems
anyone who's going to buy one, has. Around here in MA, you don't see
them often at all, not like Boxsters used to be. And I have it on
good authority that a dealer to the north has OVER 30 Cayman S models
sitting in a side lot doing nothing but collecting rust- and that was
AFTER they offered something like $10k off sticker, a deal they got
into a heap of trouble with Porsche over.
