To my recollection, the 924 was to be a VW designate, not Audi. The use of
the
Audi 2144 cc four (the basis of our vaunted fives) was because of the
VW-Audi
connection, at the time of the 924, the only availible I-4's that were
purely VW
were the Golf/Scirocco 1.5 and 1.6 liters.
