1999.5 A4 Bose 6 CD Error 1

Hi all,
6 CD changer in the Avant is acting up. It keeps giving an error 1 display; 
which is for a dirty or scratched CD. Keeps displaying the error even with a 
new cd loaded. Any ideas, or btdt.
