88 80Q won't start or idle when cold unless you crack the throttle

Have you checked the operation of the auxiliary air valve? Sometimes  
they can stick, and a good cleaning with carburetor cleaner often can  
perk them up. Failing that it could be that the valve isn't being  
controlled correctly by the ECU.
