*Not* getting involved other than to say:
I always scan cars prior to dealership service. Knowledge is power, and
scanning can't hurt anything. I wouldn't reset anything if I were going
the dealership route, however. Of course with my background, I *can* fix
most anything... I just don't always *desire* to. =)
If you're working on any newer Audi (MMI for sure), you'll need to upgrade
the VAG-COM to a dual-K line unit. Ross-Tech has a discount program for
such. The single K line units will still access *some* modules, but if you
want to scan everything, time to upgrade.
The electonics are the weak link in modern Audi. I bet some would argue
that's the case in older Audis, too! I don't see a lot of purely mechanical
failures or issues in the recent cars- most have been electronics (or
electrical control) related.
And Taka is right, if you want out the car, the *best* way is to have them
take thier time with service. Our second A8 was also purchased back by Audi
rather than face a "lemon-law" branded title after it was out of
service 3.5months in the first 6 months of ownership for (mostly) a
check engine
light. In hindsight, I bet it was an $8.00 fuel tank seal causing the EVAP
problem, but by the time I got through with Audi's blantant (and documented)
lies, it was time to force thier hand. We purchased a Lexus LS430 Ultra
Luxury instead.
