driver's door will not open (unlocked)

Since you'll need the door open to work on it, if pulling on the cable 
while holding the sheath from inside doesn't do it, you can call the 
mobile car people (AAA for me) to get it open with a Slim Jim or similar 
device.  Then don't shut it until you've figured it out.

In the meantime, I'd suggest leaving the passenger window open enough to 
reach into its door handle - no sense in tempting Murphy to break your 
other outside door handle when one is down...
