Delta CC frequency spacing - programmable feature?

As someone stateside who works in the broadcast
industry stateside, you are correct that the VHF-FM
band tunes odd numbered decimal (88.1, 88.3, 88.5
MHz...) in a North American radio.

Have you tuned the AM/MW band?  Does it tune with 10
kHz increments (North American) or 9 kHz increments
(EU)?

While I cannot say with 100% certainty that the
VAG-COM would handle this "reprogramming" chore, I
would guess not.  I have tested two VW application
radios that work with VAG-COM and I did not see
configuration information of that sort.

What could have happened is a open or shorted
connection to the synthesizer IC (again no details) is
mistakenly telling your radio to tune to the North
American channel plan.  I do not have the chip
information, therefore, I could not tell you what the
proper pin is or what modes are controlled there.  I
am confident that there is a pin on a chip that
controls this, though.

I once recall renting a Chrysler product some 16 years
or so ago in Detroit, of all places.  The radio tuned
European format.  This was OK on FM as it still picked
up the local stations well, but on AM, the 9 kHz
spacing rendered proper reception of the local AM
stations difficult.

In a similar vein, I was recently in a motel, which
had an alarm clock in the room.  The digital clock
would not keep proper time.  After a while, I figured
out that it was running 20 percent fast (ie 10 minutes
"real time" would come out as 12 on the clock).  I
would guess there was a pin on the chip and it was set
for 50 Hz operation instead of 60 Hz operation).
