Audi parts for an old car

Jim,
You bought a part for a Type 43 at the dealer? wow. I was told a few years
ago (shortly after the 1980 5k became a "recreational driver" with classic
insurance) by the parts guy at the local dealer that Type 43 parts were
being wiped from their parts system. The coil went south and they located
one in Arizona (apparently it's the same as the one in an Alfa GTV6) and
shipped it up for me - arrived a couple of days later.
The support for the vintage models is waning - although I heard nary a peep
on here about the dropping of T43 parts, you should hear all the screaming
going on in the urQ groups now that they're dropping them off the list of
supported cars. In their case, Audi is still using the urQ rally image to
sell cars but allowing the enthusiast fleet to languish (/and eventually
turn to cannibalism - as I have already....there's a 1983 5k shell in my
back yard with a date with the plasma cutter). BMW can build a 2002 out of
available parts in their warehouse, you can send your Gullwing to Mercedes
and they'll restore it (at a price), but Audi sets up Audi Club
International and then they have a quiet yard sale to sell off all sorts of
parts for the urQ/SQ (....and they'll probably end up on eBay). It appears
that Audi is very proud of the vehicles they made in the past - but if you
want to see a nice one, stay away from the car shows....the only place to go
is their Museum Mobile in Ingolstadt.
Speaking of eBay - there is an apparently (usual disclaimers apply, blah
blah) legit source for vintage parts:
