Fix or replace oil pan on A6 Avant Quattro

I second John's point about never being able to get a
good weld, but it
looks like your leaning towards the $115 replacement
sump anyway.
welding with sticks may be a good way to reduce the
leak if you find
yourself in the @rse end of nowhere.............
changing the sump also lets you remove the accumulated
gunge in there.
no matter how well maintained the car is, there will
always be some
gunge in the sump.
SOME does not necessarily mean LOTS. I will pull the
sump off mine at
least once every 3 years or so....

saying that though, there is a nutter in north
montreal who has an old
saab 900 which suffered much the same fate.
As far as I understand it, "one" covered the whole of
the drain plug
area with some fibreglass body filler a few years ago
and it is still
holding
the only problem is that he has to use a suction
device down the
dipstick tube to change the oil..................
