Radio wiring question

Not sure if anyone knows this but I'll give it a shot.
Just put in a whole new sound system in my 95 A6 Sedan. I replaced the head
unit with an Alpine CDA-9883 and one of its features is an illumination lead
that will allow the radio to dim when the lights are turned on. I have been
looking over the schematics for the A6 and I found one lead that looked like
it went to the instrument cluster control unit, but that's not it.
What the install calls for from Alpine is this : Illumination lead - This
lead may be connected to the vehicles instrument cluster illumination lead,
this will allow the backlighting of the CDA-9883 to dim whenever the
vehicles lights are turned on.
I am thinking I could probably just splice into one of the low power bulbs
illuminating the ash tray and that would probably give it the signal its
looking for.
Also anyone know if there is an remote turn on for the antenna amps in the
rear? I connected up the antenna, but my reception is definitely worse and
I am wondering if I need to splice that turnon into the AMP turn that I have
in the trunk so they are turning on together.
Thanks for any knowledge on these 2 things,
Rob
