#1: Any illumination circuit which can provide +12V is fine. From dash
lighting, switch lighting, headlights, etc. Internally, the head unit is a
relay, so very little amperage.
#2. VAG had a few different designs in the middle to end of the 1990s with
the amplified antennnas:
a. There is a separate amp wire. The is +12V, the antenna base is ground.
b. The coax itself carries the +12V. You need an adapter (to which you
wire it as above) with the +12V lead. Again, base is ground.
I don't have wiring diagrams in front of me at the moment, so I can't
confirm for your car.
