86 coupe fuel pump

My fuel pump is still whinning.  Is it possible to clean it out? Or is there
a filter on the pump that is cleanable?  This car sat for several years
before I got it.  So maybe the fuel became a little gunky from old gas and
is preventing the pump from operating correctly?  Could that be possible?
Not looking forward to loosening that fuel line.
