86 coupe temp guage (Ed Kellock)

Sounds like a travelling air bubble, did you do any work recently? As
the bubble passes b the sensor it will go wacky the drop once the
coolant returns.  would start the car and crack the bleed valve at the
top of the radiator and runn it for a bit. revving the engine up to
about 4K and holding it will help move any stubborn bubles along.
