Distributor Position question

 1990 80, non-Q, 2.0L 4 cyl.

Some time ago I had to have the distributor replaced because of a failed
hall sensor. The engine has been sluggish, leading me to think the engine
isn't timed to spec. Also, I remember that the number one marking on the
distributor was at about the two o'clock position. Now it is at eleven
o'clock. The rotor does match the markings on the dist. body for number 1.
Does it matter how the distributor is placed, as long as the rotor lines up
to the housing? The picture in the Bentley shows the dist. aligned so the
rotor points to two o'clock. What is right?

I finally found the "O" mark on the flywheel. It is in a very small hole
with a pointer. There is a larger slot below it, but no marking or line to
match the "O" up to. The cam sprocket has a marking, "O" "T", that lines up
with the mark OT on the plastic cover between it and the valve cover. Will
there be any other markings on the flywheel for the timing?

Thanks,

Al
Mililani, HI
