High Beams turn the lights off - 1990 200

the switch will swap between high and low beam so if the lights go out
then as Huw says, it looks like a dirty contact for the high beams
the light switches on the 200 have a bit of a bad habit of having
connection problems due to the switch getting hot and melting, making
the contacts move apart.
especially if the bulbs are a bit higher power than standard

I had that and, like many others on the list, replaced the switch and
relayed the headlamps.

of course, try cleaning it first!
