Some good points have been made about small cars vs. large cars in collisions. That being said, I'll still take the smaller car. Why? I have been in several situations where i was in a small, nimble car, and was able to AVOID the accident by steering around, going between, accelerating out of the way, or stopping before i got to the other vehicle. Small cars turn quicker, stop faster, and fit in smaller places. I felt much safer in my old MGB or 4000 than I do in a 3 ton truck. The best way to survive an accident is to avoid it. There's not much avoiding anything when you have that much mass lumbering down the road.
