At kbb.com, I get a blue book value of $1985. If the car is totaled,
you should be looking at getting a check for about $2000, which you
state will fix your car (plus a little pocket cash!) You can decline
their first offer, but you probably are looking at adding a couple of
hundred bucks max if you do so. I was recently in this situation,
some girl ran into a 88 Toyota Tercel that was so thrashed someone
gave it to me free. I had about $400 in parts in it, so I told the
girl she could pay me $400 and we would call it even. She said go to
the insurance company, and much to my surprise they gave me $1300 for
the car, and told me I could keep it. I was quite satisfied with
that settlement.
