Shift into Neutral to save TO Bearing?

Why have the TB spinning (and wearing) when it has nothing to do?  It is too
easy to watch the cross lights and be ready when you get the green.  I have
had my '91 200 TQ 20v since new and have always put it in neutral, clutch
out and foot off the pedal if I am not ready to go or shifting. Result - at
308,000 miles I am running on the original clutch and TB.
