I did the same so I don't see anything wrong with what your doing. IMO
Victor Reinz Is the best name in sealing products. You can find head kits
and block kits out there (german auto parts/sjm autotechnik, ect...) but
many times the kits have lower grade options contained in them. for example
a cork VC gasket..... you definitely want rubber with the copper integrated
washers. If you call one of these guys just ask for all of the gaskets in
victor rienz. some times you have to piece the kits ala cart but it is worth
it in the end. THere are also a lot of little bits that are good to have
replaced in there esp. if you are chipping the car. If you ever have any
