Alignment mystery

That's specifically what I checked for this morning, having made this  
mistake myself when replacing the ball joints, and the shop did the same when  the 
did the alignment on the car.
 
I'm not ruling out the possibility, but I believe I would have noticed  
pulling one way or another.  Also, when both previous times, the ball joint  would 
slide within its adjustment holes, so the car would be dead on while  driving 
straight, then pull to one side after rounding a corner, then dead-on  again 
after rounding a corner in the opposite direction.
 
There was no slop on the ball joint adjusters when I checked this morning,  
but that's not to say that it forced itself into a position that would require 
a  few heavy whacks with a BFH to free it up.
