Louis,
With age, (or incidents) come experience...
BTDT.... Best thing to do is ALWAYS call the police, however slight the
accident may seem. This way there's an official record for both parties. The
Bimmer dude could claim something completely different from what actually
happened after the fact. You could find additional vehicle problems, have
medical issues, etc etc. Personal interpretation and rationalization has a
funny way of turning after the event and come back to bite you later. Most
people aren't going to do a complete inspection of the car while parked on
the shoulder, often times other damage is discovered later. (as is the case
here). Agreements made at the scene of the accident generally change!
Often no further action is taken if very minor damage. But at least there's
documentation to fall back on if needed. Insurance companies normally want a
police report if any claims filed (at least here in NY).
Couple of years ago I had a deer run into the side of my car. They actually
asked for the report! Had no cell coverage, so didn't deal with it. Figured
the deer wouldn't file a claim later :o) Ins paid though!
Many of us have BTDT.... Join the club :o(
Eric
