Two thoughts:
1. Does the car have a cold-enrichment injector? Check it.
2. If the lean condition only occurs when cold, then the distributor is
likely under-measuring the mass of air flowing when cold. I think, but
may be wrong, you system still uses a mechanical airflow sensor (the
plunger plate?) might just be sticky when cold. Clean or lube it if
you are brave.
If its an e-system, sounds like a misbehaving MAF when cold.
