That seems to be a pretty common problem on Audis in general. When I bought a 4000Q several years ago almost none of the power windows worked. I found that the wires from the door jamb to the door were broken inside the outer sheath from constant flexing. More recently the deck lid light and tail lights began failing one at a time on my 90Q. Same problem. There is a really tough outer sheath but it bends almost double when the lid closes. Eventually they open up and sometimes they short out and cause a meltdown.

I checked the grounds, added grounds, grounded the
grounds, ran aground, ate at Ground Round, grounded my
kids, ground my teeth, then got frank j. bauer advice
on checking the bundle at the left trunk hinge. Found
all the wires there frayed barely hanging on. I then
started pulling off the cloth tape covering the bundle
to the left tail-light. Found that the entire bundle
from the left hinge to the left tailight was one big
melted single conductor.
So here's my guess - Gorund at point 11 (ground lug
near left taillight was bad. Caused extra current
draw because of the additinal lights being lit up
(Christmas trees). PPO kept putting in higher fuses
until 3 Mile Island meltdown.
Clipped out the bad section, put a patch in and all is
fine again.
