Interesting Thread on Claimed 'Unintended Acceleration'

I had an Olds when I was in school that had wild accelerations without benefit of gas-pedal input. It was terrifying. Like this guy, it happened from a start but also from an acceleration from a left-hand turn. Turned out to be a broken motor mount. Witnessed the problem firsthand in the driveway...with the hood open and the car running, had an assistant LOCK-UP the brakes and then tap the gas. WHOA!!! The torque of the engine caused it to rotate on the good mount which pulled on the accelerator linkage which reved the engine more; a runaway condition. Once the torque flattened out, the engine would settle down on the mount and would be OK...until the next stop or turn.
