Gas mileage has always been poor, it's just now that I'm really measuring it
consistently.  Still pulls pretty strong, although it can be a bit boggy at
low throttle when it's hot out.  Same with starting when warm -- I usually
cycle the fuel pump on/off/on so it starts right away.  Compression tests
were fine last Fall -- one cylinder was a little lower then the rest but
overall it seemed good.  Idle's at a steady 900 rpm.  Wants to hold on to
revs a bit, which makes for slowish upshifting.  Vacuum leak?  Plugs looked
ok last I checked.

Checking through the old service records from the PO and one place said that
the injectors were leaking but I haven't had them tested yet; same with the
headgasket -- the PO was advised to "dispose of the vehicle; expensive
repairs," which immediately makes me want to discredit anything that was
said by this non-Audi/VW "tractor repair shop".
