Yup.  BTDT.  It's actually quite easy.  Under the rear seat,  in about the
middle and toward the front edge of the seat, there's a controller box which
has a wiring connector and some vacuum lines.  In the wiring connector
there's a blue/white wire.  That's the speed signal wire.  Get rid of it and
no auto unlock on the rear diff.  I did it the hard way and removed the
connector from the block altogether so it could be replaced later.  It could
also be cut and respliced later if that "feature" was wanted again.
