taka - good point on the used tires. when i say used i mean lightly - not
worn out! IME it seems like 4 seasons is the limit [blizzaks, m2's] but if
you're buying used you can often get wheels with just a season or 2 [at
least here in sf, where you often catch people escaping the snow]. that will
clearly change depending on geography. tahoe weekenders are really hard on
tires as we start in mild weather and then run up to cold and snow. 95% of
my 'winter' driving is in the bay area on dry roads which accelerates wear.
i picked up a set of 16" m2's on really nice borbet wheels from a guy on CL
that had just moved from CO. 1 season for $300. i would have paid more for
just the wheels! i bent 2 earlier this season, so i bought 4 stock 16" b6a4
wheels for 100$ and 2 brand new pirelli wintersport's for 90$ on ebay. i'm
not thrilled to mix n match with the m2's [same size and similar tread
pattern] but we'll see how it goes.
cheers
jim
