Advice solicited on dealing with VW

Exactly my point.  When the mileage started dropping, I thought I'd see 
some oil loss, but none at all.  The dry black powder on the tailpipes 
would lead me to suspect some richness, but it's not that much and VW 
says that's what to expect. 

At $3.00+ per gal of premium, it costs me over $35 per day round trip to 
work.  Not going to keep doing that long.
