200Q 20vT + VAG-COM = Driveability problems?

Springs are what I remember on early cars.
I mostly guessed at the solenoid, Kneale confirmed.  But it had to be 
there for ECU control.
My biturbo had a vastly more complicated system, whcih, fortunately, 
never gave me a hint of trouble.
