Gentlemen and Ladies:
I'm interested in learning more about the weak points in the instrument
cluster.
I replaced my ignition switch two weeks ago and now have the following
issues (no problems prior to IS replacement) with my 1995 S6 avant:
1. Temp gauge is dead
2. Tach is dead
3. Brake pad warning light on autocheck flashes
4. Oil warning light on autocheck flashes
I've linked the warning lights to the large green plug (3rd from left as you
look forward) in the middle of the cluster.
While several listers responded to my initial queries regarding this problem
with, "are the plugs connected correctly?" I can ensure you that, yes they
are, and checking those connections was my first action when the troubles
showed up.
Any BTDT on fixing this stuff? Is the problem that my replacement of the I
Switch damaged the connections in the secondary PCB? Or should I look to the
wiring that connects to the Instrument Cluster as the problem?
I've yet to tear the cluster apart and even check out the secondary PCB, but
perhaps I need to?
Electronics are new to me, but I'm starting to learn fast. Hope to fix these
issues on my own, rather than take the car to my mechanic (or buy a used
unit for the several hundred they're asking for it). Cash is tight right
now.
Thanks,
Tom
