It's not that hard.  If you're changing the coolant you should change 
the thermostat, so the lower flange is wide open.  Remove the top hose 
too.  Insert garden hose, open heater valve.  Wait.  Run engine if 
necessary while flushing to get the nooks and crannies.

If highly concerned, capture the first effluent and bring to recycling 
center (Hi, here's 5 gallons of used coolant!).

OK, I know that's not fair to some, my well water is mineral free enough 
for me to use it.
